This authentic Zimbabwean Shona sculpture beautifully expresses the sadness and longing of goodbyes with the joy and celebration of a couple dancing – a truly African farewell. The raw stone is sculpted using chisels in order to ‘release’ the spirit the sculptors believe is trapped in the stone. This form of sculpture is treasured internationally, with New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Queen Elizabeth II and the Rockerfellers all owning Shona sculptures.
